The Walking Dead series showrunner Frank Darabont may have been fired by AMC, he had horror fans and the ratings on his side. Now Darabont has found a new job in TV land developing a series for TNT called L.A. Noir.

This new show is based on a book called L.A. Noir: The Struggle for the Soul of America’s Most Seductive City written by John Buntin, and which chronicled the war between L.A. police chief William Parker and gangster Mickey Cohen in the 1940s. Darabont will receive an executive producer credit on the show, which he will also write and direct. Also exec producing is Michael De Luca (The Social Network and the former president of production for New Line Cinema, the place where Darabont wrote A Nightmare on Elm Street Part III) and Elliot Webb (Tall Time Tales).

So why make the move to zombies to mobsters?

"Noir is a passion of mine, so I feel blessed to delve into a project that speaks in the hardboiled vernacular," said Darabont in a press release. "John Buntin's superb book, though non-fiction, is our touchstone and inspiration for the stories we'll be telling, weaving fiction throughout the facts and facts throughout the fiction. The book provides elements that are irresistible, a big canvas with endless possibilities. The goal is to deliver on the tone that the title L.A. Noir promises: a smart, gritty, authentic, period noir drama. Also a blessing is the warm welcome we’ve gotten from Michael Wright and TNT, a great bunch of folks with huge enthusiasm for the source material."

So now Darabont is back in the TV arena, and everyone will be watching L.A. Noir to see if he can replicate lightning like The Walking Dead again. And if he does, won't AMC have egg on their face.
