Frank Darabont out of The Walking Dead
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, July 26, 2011
Supposedly it's all but official but Frank Darabont, the showrunner/pilot director and writer of AMC's The Walking Dead series has hit the road.
The place that broke the story doesn't state a reason for Darabont's departure beside some vague premise that he never adapted to doing a 7 day a week work schedule. The rumors say more: that he's hard to work with creatively, that AMC has had repeated difficulties working with him and those sort of nasty, anonymous rumors. And there are the supporters of Darabont too, saying that he's gracious with his time and likes to interact with his fans. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, but judging from the success that The Walking Dead has been for AMC, removing a key player like Darabont isn't done without major reason.
If the story is true, I expect the network to issue a statement shortly. Darabont will likely remain a consulting producer on the series while someone that AMC likes steps up to fill the showrunner shoes.
The Walking Dead is somewhere halfway-or-so through filming its slate of 13 episodes for season two. The new shows premiere around Halloween on AMC.

Wow, this makes me nervous. I assume he will have had a hand in the start of Season 2 but I wonder if things will drop off in the middle of the season.
Then again, if he was truly difficult to work with maybe the show will be even better.
