I only kind of liked the first two Gears games, but I am having a blast with Gears 3. It is super polished in every aspect. The graphics benefit greatly from actually using more colors than brown and gray, and the lighting system is flashier as well. The campaign is great fun so far, especially in 4-player co-op, and the other modes are also great fun. I'll be spending a lot of time with this game for sure.

Gears of War 3 arrives
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, September 20, 2011
The latest game in Microsoft's Xbox 360 franchise for Gears of War went on sale last night at the stroke of midnight. Gears of War 3, made by Epic Games, is now available for the Xbox 360. It's expected to be one of the console's biggest sellers this year, and advance orders have been huge.
Many gaming stores opened their doors at 12:01 AM to let late night shoppers in and be the first to own a copy of GoW3. Early reviews have been favorable for the title, with CNN's reviewer stating the game ties a "brilliant and bloody bow" on the series.
Epic has said that Gears of War 3 ties up the dangling storylines from the previous two games, and that players will learn what's behind the drive of the evil Locust and Lambent alien races and why they want to destroy the human population on the planet Sera.

I don't normally care about games (mostly because I suck at them), but I hope this one gets a book for the story, since I know who wrote it and I'm thinking it's a safe bet the story will be stellar, too.
