Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Saturday, November 20, 2010
Yesterday the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows had a great midnight opening and commanding first full day of release.
The movie took in an estimated $24 million dollars from midnight shows at 3,700 theaters that opened for a late night screening. When the sun rose and daytime showings of Deathly Hallows began, the movie took in another $37.2 million, bringing the film's total one-day gross up to $61.2 million dollars.
Looking at the numbers, the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 performance is now the franchise holder, besting Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince's opening day gross of $58.2 million. However, in terms of overall biggest one-day performance Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 ranks fifth best, behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($62 million, #4), The Dark Knight ($67.2m, #3), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($68.5m, #2) and The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($72.7, #1).
As for its three-day opening weekend, estimates are placing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 to gross approximately $130 million dollars. In his weekly box office prediction column, CA's own Thurston McQ forecasted a $124m three-day take for the movie.

Saw this on Sunday. It's good. It's very good. Properly dark though, and not suitable for very young kids.
