Item 47 extra short to be included on Avengers DVD
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, July 4, 2012
I've got to say, I do dig what Marvel Studios is doing with these short "one-shot" films they're adding to their movie DVD releases. With the Captain America and Thor flicks, we got two day in the life of Agent Coulson stories. Now with Clark Gregg out of the Marvel cinematic universe (for the time being, if you know what I mean, wink wink), I was wondering if Marvel would keep going on with their short films.
The answer to that question is yes.
When The Avengers arrives on DVD come September 25, on it will be a 12-minute One-Shot called "Item 47". It centers on a couple (Cloverfield's Lizzy Caplan and Jesse Bradford (Flags of our Fathers) who are holding up banks while armed with an alien ray gun left behind by the failed Chitauri invasion of Earth seen in The Avengers.
Tasked to retrieve the mission Chitauri "item" are two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents played by Maximiliano Hernández (who was seen in brief scenes in Thor and The Avengers) and Titus Welliver (better known for playing Lost's Man in Black.)
Marvel will show the entire length of "Item 47" during their Comic-Con presentation happening next week. They're already thinking about One-Shots to be included on the DVDs for Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, Thor 2 and, likely, that mysterious and still unnamed Marvel movie that's just been rescheduled for release on August 1, 2014 (and could be a live-action Guardians of the Galaxy picture.)
And the future One-Shots could feature a second or third-tier Marvel superhero, if the studio heads feel that they've found the right story and can cast an actor for what could turn out to be a one-shot part -- or the launching point for the hero/ine to appear in a future Marvel movie.
"There’s always a potential to introduce a character," said "Item 47" director and Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito to Entertainment Weekly. "We have 8,000 of them, and they can’t all be at the same level. So maybe there are some that are not so popular, and we introduce them [with a short] – and they take off. I could see that happening."
