It's got bricks and sticks: Lego Rock Band is announced
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, April 21, 2009

For thousands of years marriages have been arranged so that both different sides can increase their share of power. Bogart and Bacall, Charles and Diana, Brad and Angelina, it doesn't matter if they were royalty or celebrity, they commanded the attention of the world. So why should it be any different for video games?
Today the forthcoming marriage between two royal families of video games was announced: Lego Rock Band. With both properties bestsellers in their own right one can imagine what kind of sales figures the new title can attain through the crossover effect. Harmonix (creators of Rock Band) and Travellers Tales Games (creators of the Lego games) will both co-develop the new title. Their goal is to bring the fun of performing hit rock songs to younger audiences, and for veteran virtual rock stars to experience a lighter side of the party-all-night attitude.
A release date wasn't given but five songs destined for the game were revealed: Blur's "Song 2", Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting", Europe's "The Final Countdown", Good Charlotte's "Boys and Girls" and Pink's "So What". You'll not only be able to customize your band's performers but also build roadies, managers and technicians, as well as progress your way through different stadiums both fairly real and some that are totally impossible. Lego Rock Band will blast its way on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii/DS gaming systems.
"Lego Rock Band combines two compelling properties and creates an experience that family members of all ages will enjoy playing together as a group," commented Tom Stone, the managing director for TT Games. "Harmonix and MTV Games are the world experts in music gameplay, and we’re genuinely thrilled to bring the unique and humor-filled LEGO experience to their Rock Band."
"We’re thrilled to offer another LEGO branded gaming experience that will deliver humorous and social play for families and friends," added Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, the vice president of the LEGO Group. "Lego Rock Band is built around the same values of imagination and family-friendly creative role play that is present in other LEGO videogames. It will deliver innovative new elements of game play that complement the fun of the Rock Band experience."
"Rock Band is a social game experience that crosses every generation and every genre of rock," said Bob Picunko, senior vice president of Electronic Games for MTV Games. "Harmonix and MTV Games are big fans of the LEGO game franchise and excited to work with TT Games to develop a new take on Rock Band that focuses on great music and LEGO humor that’s fun for the whole family."
