Jane Austin's Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters in September
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, July 15, 2009
When it was first announced a year ago, Quirk Books' Pride and Prejudice and Zombies sounded like it would probably be a one-note pony, a quick cash grab on the zombie film craze. However, when the book was released earlier this year readers were pleasantly surprised at how author Seth Grahame-Smith managed to pull it off. There's even a movie now in development.
Sensing that there was an appetite for monsterized Jane Austin classics, Quick has announced its second volume in the Austin monster mashup series, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. To be published on September 15, S&S&SM has the Dashwood sisters sent away from their homestead to live on a far away island surrounded by dangerous sea creatures, pirates and a few giant-sized ocean critters that like to come ashore in search of man-food. Writer Ben H. Winters said that the book will draw inspiration from a wide range of water beasties in pop fiction such as Bruce the shark from Jaws to the friendly Spongebob Squarepants.
S&S&SM will feature a ratio of original Austin text to new material of around 60-to-40. The publisher plans on printing an initial round of 200,000 copies of the new book and then wait and see if it brings back the zombie-loving Austinites for the new aquatic attacks.
And what's this? Why, Quirk Books even created a trailer for the book!
