Jason director decides to walk with RKO's Zombie
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, March 16, 2009
The Roseblood Movie Company and Twisted Pictures blew the dust off of RKO's classic chiller I Walked With a Zombie two months ago when they announced plans to remake the 1943 film. Now they've decided on a director, one with a horror pedigree, namely Jason Goes to Hell director Adam Marcus.
The choice doesn't appear to have been a hard one for the companies since Marcus co-wrote the new version's screenplay with writing partner Debra Sullivan. One of the producers on the new Zombie is Race to Witch Mountain director Andy Flickman who told Variety "Adam and Deborah have created a chilling screenplay that along with Adam's vision would make Lewton proud."
The original film was set in the tropics and centered on a nurse who fell in love with the husband of a patient she was caring for. The doc used the native legends of reviving the dead to try and bring back his wife, creating a romantic love triangle that was pretty unusual for movies back in the 1940s. The new IWWaZ replaces the nurse with a private tutor character working for a businessman and brings the action to New Orleans.

its odd that I still havent seen this original. Now I gotta say that I'm not at all upset at remaking movies from the 40's... as opposed to the 70's, 80's and 90's.. its better when its prceeded by "shaking the dust off of..."
heres the original RKO 1943 trailer:

oh good that works.... I just watched the original trailer... its the kind of movie that would make Wes Craven proud.. because its a litte like Serpent and the Rainbow.
Plus I think "Whodo-you voodoo?" movies generally work and convey better on-screen than Gypsy Curse movies...dang those silly gypsy women.
