The brother-in-law of Jennifer Hudson wars taken in custody on Monday and charges are to be laid against him shortly in the murders of the Showgirls star's mother, brother and nephew.
27-year-old William Balfour, who had already been held in lock-up on suspicion of violating parole and considered a "person of interest" in the slayings, was arrested Monday afternoon by Chicago police. Balfour had been incarcerated in the Illinois Statesville Correctional Center since two days after the bodies were found on October 24. According to a police department official that spoke with E! News, Balfour will be charged with the murders.
But both Balfour's laywer and mother have denied that he was is involved in the murders. "He vehemently denies that he is guilty in this case," lawyer Joshua Kutnick said to the press outside the holding facility. "Any evidence pointing to Mr. Balfour is not even thin. It is very, very weak."
"If they found gun powder on his hands, you got a case," said Michelle Davis-Balfour. "If they found a gun on him, he had a case. If they found a fingerprint on the truck that he did this, you got a case -- but they don't have nothing."
The bodies of 57-year-old Darnell Hudson Donerson and her son, Jason Hudson, were found shot to death last month in the Hudson family's Chicago home. Three days after police discovered the body of 7-year-old Julian King in an abandoned SUV. While Balfour is the estranged husband of Julia King, Jennifer Hudson's sister, he was not the father of Julian.
