Justin Lin inks two-year deal with Universal Pictures
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Fast Five director Justin Lin has signed a deal with Universal Pictures that will keep him visiting The Black Tower for at least the next two years. It makes considerable sense for Universal to have made Lin happy: Fast Five has grossed over $605 million dollars worldwide and is the #1 box office champ for the franchise. Lin also directed the third and fourth movies in the series.
He's committed to direct Fast and the Furious 6, as the six-quel is being referred to now, for a May 24, 2013 release date. Also happening for his Universal bosses is a science fiction concept being developed by Lin's former assistant Robert Glickert and a movie about the 442nd Infantry, an all-Japanese American squad of soldiers that fought in World War II.
One movie that Lin remains attached to is Terminator 5. While the rights for Terminator don't reside at Universal, there's always a possibility that Lin's connection to that studio will spark a deal with the Terminator rights holders. Lin has spoken a little about his ideas for a fifth Terminator movie and they include bringing back Arnold Schwarzenegger into the creative mix. The filmmaker has also talked with Terminator creator James Cameron too, but we're not privy to what ideas were bounced around during their little pow-wow.
