Katie Holmes to be afraid of Guillermo's Dark remake
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, May 7, 2009

Apparently Hobbit helmer Guillermo del Toro has an extra three-and-a-half minutes a day so he's decided to fill up that wasted space with another movie project. The Hellboy director co-wrote a remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark with Matthew Robbins which is going to be filmed this summer under the direction of Troy Nixey (a guy that Variety calls del Toro's "protoge".)
Originally made as a 1973 TV movie that starred Kim Darby and Jim Hutton, the new DBAotD has Katie Holmes slated to play the central role of a young woman who discovers that her family's new home is infested with devil-like creatures. Del Toro will get a producing credit along with Mark Johnson when the film shoots in Australia in a couple of months.
Del Toro is, of course, knee-deep in the writing and preparation for making back-to-back movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, due out in 2011 and 2012. He's also a producer on Splice, Cube director Vincenzo Natali's dark genetic thriller and has, no lie, about a dozen other horror, sci-fi and thrillers in various stages of pre-production. Guillermo has got to be one of the busiest, hardest working guys working today.

Wow, she looks drop-dead gorgeous. I've never seen her look better than she does in this picture. Whew!
