Following in the footsteps of such movie franchises that have received the Lego video game treatment, Disney Interactive Studios has inked a deal with TT Games, the developers of Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter and Lego Batman, to make Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game. Come next May Captain Jack is going to be bustin' bricks.

The game will be in stores by the time the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides, rolls into theaters in May 2011. TT Games will be developing versions for all major gaming platforms including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PSP, Nintendo DS and Wii and Windows PC. Material from all four Pirates of the Caribbean movies will be included in the gameplay and over 70 characters from the movie franchise will be playable.

"Pirates of the Caribbean is a globally successful franchise based in action, adventure and humor perfectly suited for a LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game adaptation," said Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager, Disney Interactive Studios.  "Combining the excitement of playing as Jack Sparrow and other recognizable characters from the franchise will make the game fun for players of all ages throughout the world."

There have been earlier Pirates of the Caribbean video games including a massive multiplayer online (MMO) that has been in operation for three years now. The Lego movie video games have been runaway bestsellers since the first tie-in, Lego Star Wars. The last time TT Games revealed how well this one title had done for their company, back in June 2009, a company spokesman said that there had been 20 million copies of the first Lego Star Wars sold to consumers worldwide across all platforms.
