The man who originated the character of Mr. Spock on Star Trek back in 1967 has gone on the record to say there will be no more acting treks for him. Leonard Nimoy, who is a spy 79-years-old, told The Toronto Sun newspaper that after he finished filming the latest episode of Fringe he's retiring from acting for good.
"I've been doing this professionally for 60 years," Nimoy told the paper. "I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time."
The man who once didn't want anything more to do with Star Trek is now ending his showbiz career with several convention appearances in Canada. He's scheduled to appear this coming weekend in the small Albertan town of Vulcan, population 1,900, for a comic book and entertainment expo. Nimoy admits that this could be his last con appearance too even though he loves meeting with his fans. "I’m so grateful to the fans. I call these kind of experiences a victory lap ... It’s like having a family meeting — a family reunion," he said.
After last summer's rebranding of Star Trek proved to be a huge success for Paramount and director J.j. Abrams, there had been some talk that Nimoy could reprise his role as Spock Prime, as his character was billed in the film, for a sequel. Now that Nimoy has kiboshed that possible future he's ready to fully pass on the mantle of the Vulcan ears to the inheritor of the character, Zachary Quinto. "He’s a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it's time to give him some space. And I'm very flattered the character will continue."
Nimoy will continue to forge ahead his second career as a photographer.

well that sucks... more with Fringe than with Trek. I was surprised that he reprises his role of Spock for the latest movie (it was a nice treat though)
