Little Fockers is a priority for Universal
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, February 19, 2009
Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz blog is breaking the news that Universal is bringing in a new writer to do a polish on Little Fockers, the third in its Meet the Fockers comedy series. The man who has a new paycheck is writer/director John Hamburg, a fellow who's familiar with the film franchise after having done drafts on the previous two entries, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers.
Hamburg, who also directed the Paul Rudd comedy I Love You, Man, which is due out next month, is polishing an earlier Little Fockers draft by Larry Stuckey. Universal is hoping to have the new version of Little Fockers in the hands of potential directors shortly because it can't depend on Jay Roach returning to do #3 since he's busy developing Dinner For Schmucks for DreamWorks. Still, Roach will have a hand in shaping Little Fockers and receive a producer's credit on the new movie.
Risky Biz also reports that Universal wants to get that new director signed, sealed and delivered sooner rather than later.

They have to have Jay Roach come back to direct. If not then at least Ben Stiller himself. The new guy? He might be decent but a good sequel should keep as many elements from the last film in place as possible and the director is key.
