The deal has been reached that will have Michael Bay return to the giant 'bot film franchise called Transformers. Bay will direct Transformers 4 for a June 29, 2014 release berth.
But before Bay heads back to the Autobots, he'll first make a project that he's wanted to film for years, Pain and Gain. With Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson already cast as Florida bodybuilders that perform a series of extortions that wind up in murder, Bay will shoot the film this spring before segwaying into Transformers 4 late in '12.
There's no writer announced for TF4, but there probably is one working on a concept right now. A bigger mystery is which human actors will be back for the fourth movie, and whether Shia LaBeouf will be involved in any capacity. In recent months one of the rumors swirling around the 'net had pegged Paramount being interested in Jason Statham to bring his buzzcut British bad boy attitude to the FX franchise, but that's just gossip at the moment.
