After directing this past weekend's number one movie, Andy Fickman's agent wisely leaked out the news to Variety about what may be his next gig, Monster Attack Network.
The project is set up at Walt Disney, the same place where Fickman made Race to Witch Mountain and The Game Plan. Based on a AIT/Planet Lar graphic novel (it's a comic book, silly) Disney has screenwriters Scott Elder and Josh Harmon working on adapting it. Jason Netter is the producer.
As Variety explains it, Disney sees this do for giant monsters what Men in Black did for space aliens or Ghostbusters for dead things. The Monster Attack Network comic was about the team assigned to protect the Pacific isle of Lapuatu from giant monsters that come up from the sea and rampage on dry land. The studio wants to jettison the island setting and make the Monster Attack Network based in the U.S. and safeguarding America home soil from the big beasties.
Variety also mentions that Elder and Harmon wrote a spec script called Snow and the Seven which got them first noticed by Disney. In that project their took the Snow White fairy tale and reimagined Snow as a British girl who is raised in 19th century Hong Kong by seven Shaolin monks to battle an evil force. Now that sounds cool.
