New lady blood for Ghostbusters game
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, March 23, 2009
When news that the original quartet of Ghostbusters would be lending their voices to Atari's new Ghostbusters video game, the news was greeted with much rejoicing from fans. However, once people had time to settle down a new question immediately formed in their thoughts: would Sigourney Weaver be also coming back to reprise her character in the game? For months we've wondered whether the absence of Weaver's name from the Ghostbusters game meant just that.
Today we found out for sure that Sigourney Weaver wouldn't be among the cast members of Atari's Ghostbusters game. That doesn't mean that there won't be a female lead. It turns out that Alyssya Milano has landed the part providing the voice for a new female character and possible love interest for Bill Murray's Dr. Peter Venkman, archaeologist Dr. Ilyssa Selwyn.
Described by Atari as an expert in Sumerian and pre-Sumerian cultures, Ilyssa is visiting New York City to take in the "World of Gozer" exhibition in 1991, two years after the events we saw in Ghostbusters 2 and 7 years after the real Gozer nearly wiped out the world in the original Ghostbusters movie. Now that the world knows about the existence of Gozer there's been a demand for more information about the time epoch that the demi-god had its greatest power. In the game Alyssa is working late at the exhibition when something happens that awakens what Atari calls an "ancient enemy." With strange paranormal events taking place around her Dr. Selwyn needs the help of the Ghostbusters. What she doesn't need is the constantly stream of pick-up lines that Pete Venkman is throwing at her every three minutes.
Ghostbusters: The Game is slated to come out on June 16, 2009 for PlayStation 2 and 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and DS platforms. As reported earlier, all four original actors that played the Ghostbusters are voicing their characters in the game.
