Paranormal Activity to start happening in 15 cities
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, September 15, 2009
The darling of this year's Slamdance Film Festival, Paranormal Activity, is getting a limited release at the end of the month in 15 cities. With an impressive list of pull-quotes from respected movie news websites, could the micro-budgeted Paranormal Activity be the next Blair Witch Project?
Paramount is hoping that it is. On September 25 the studio is releasing Paranormal Activity into the following cities: Austin, TX; Ann Arbor, MI; Durhan, NC; Baton Rouge, LA; Boulder, CO; Columbus, OH; Lincoln, NB; Madison, WI; Orlando, FL; Santa Cruz, CA; Seattle, WA; State College, PA; and Tuscon, AZ. They've also just launched an official website (www.ParanormalMovie.com) and started a social media marketing campaign to gauge the interest in expanding the film's run: by going to the Paranormal Activity hub on Eventful.com, you can express your interest in having the film play in your neck of the woods by "demanding it", to borrow Paramount's choice of wording.
Directed by Oren Peli on a reported budget of just $11,000, Paranormal Activity uses the cinéma vérité style of filmmaking, incorporating documentary techniques to achieve a feeling that the events being watched happened in real life. A young couple (Katie Featherston, Micah Sloat) move into a starter home and begin to experience strange ghost-like events during the middle of the night. As the intensity of the nightly occurences intensifies, the couple seek the advice of an expert in the paranormal who advises them that whatever it is that's going bump in the night may not be a ghost. In fact, it may be a lot worse than that.

The trailer looks really cool. This will be a great flick to see in a packed theater.
