Percy Jackson's mom has experience with Wild Things

Catherine Keener has joined the cast of Percy Jackson, formerly known by the title Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. She's playing the mother of the main character, a young  teenager who discovers that his father is the Greek god Poseidon.

The role of Poseidon has already gone to Grey's Anatomy co-star Kevin McKidd. Logan Lerman plays Percy while Pierce Brosnan is Chiron, Sean Bean is Zeus, Uma Thurman is Medusa and Melina Kanakerides is Athena. Hades, the villain of the movie, has yet to be cast.

Keener will also play the mom of a young boy in Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, coming out in October.

Filming began on Percy Jackson earlier this month and will run through until August.

I have to say, I know *nothing* about this series. All I'm hoping for is a interest factor that's a third of what I felt for the Harry Potter series, nothing more. I'd say I'm encouraged by the strong casting thus far, but frankly Golden Compass was very well cast and the results were dreary.

But how can you go wrong with the Greek pantheon?
