It's always a good time for an actor, director, writer or producer to announce via the trades their next project right after their latest one has hit a high note at the box office. Witness the latest example of this: The Proposal's Ryan Reynolds will star in Buried, a new thriller scheduled to start filming this month in Barcelona, Spain.
Written by Chris Sparling and to be directed by Rodrigo Cortes, this Safran Company project doesn't have a distributor yet. Reynolds will play a civilian contractor working in Iraq who's kidnapped and knocked out. When he comes to he finds himself trapped inside a coffin, buried somewhere under the desert sand. All he has with him is a cell phone, a candle, a knife and his wits. How's he going to get out of the situation alive?
Director Cortes is Spanish and has made nine films in his career, all of which he's either completely written the script for or received a co-writing credit. Buried is the first project in Cortes' career where he hasn't penned the story.
Reynolds remains attached to star in Deadpool, based on the mercenary mutant character he played in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
