Shia LaBeouf has signed to star in The Associate, a new thriller from Paramount Pictures based on John Grishan's novel of the same name. The Transformers and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull star will play a law school graduate from Yale who is herded in taking a job at an elite law firm only to find himself given confidential information about a multibillion dollar lawsuit that the firm is embroiled in.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the film. Variety tells an interesting story as to how Shia got hooked up with The Associate: Bonaventura, who is also a producer on the now filming Transformers sequel, got sent Grisham's novel while he was on the Transformers 2 set in the Middle East. While there Bonaventura told LeBeouf about the project and that was all the 22-year-old needed to attach himself to the movie.
