Bryan Singer has a new potential project on his creative backburner and it's based on a comic book. No, it has nothing to do with Marvel's X-Men or DC's Superman. Have you ever heard of Freedom Formula?
Published by Radical Publishing, Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland was a four-issue comic book series that came out last summer. New Regency has optioned the film rights to the book and tapped screenwriter Michael Finch to adapt it. Since New Regency has a distribution deal with 20th Century Fox the eventual film (if it gets made) will be released by that studio.
Freedom Formula is kind of a weird crossover between those exo-robotic suits that are a staple of Japanese manga and race cars. It's set in another one of those staples of dystopic science fiction, the near future when corporations have the power to act as governments and human life has started to become cheap. The main character in the book is a genetically engineered racer named Zee who competes in dangerous races inside a high-tech racing exo-suit. Think Speed Racer meets The Running Man meets Robotech.
While the attachment of Singer to the project isn't that new, the addition of screenwriter Finch is. He's currently a hot property in Hollywood due to a spec script he co-wrote called Medieval getting sold for big bucks to Regency.

i'd prefer to think of it as NASCAR meets The Running Man meets Robotech and block all visions of silly Speed Racer out of my head.
so it'll be like Driven with Japanese Mecha? sounds cool to me... I'll be there.
Patrick, keep us posts if and when a trailer gets uploaded, ok?
