SNL Digital Short: Michael Bolton is Captain Jack Sparrow

Are Andy Samburg and The Lonely Island the best comedy filmmakers today? Discuss.


Best known for their work on Saturday Night Live, The Lonely Island (Andy Samburg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer) is one of the few true successes to jump from the Internet to real Hollywood careers. While the Samburg-led Hot Rod might not have burned up the box office, Island’s SNL Digital Shorts on Saturday Night Live work like their recent Akon team-up “I Just Had Sex” is pretty great. But their short this past Saturday blasts that one out of the water.

Two words: Michael Bolton.

Directed by Jorma & Akiva, “Jack Sparrow” features Bolton as you’ve never seen him before: as Captain Jack Sparrow, Forrest Gump, and a few other film characters who are even more disturbing when Bolton-ized. His turn as a certain Miami kingpin will blow you away.

Kudos to the Island for coming up with this, and Bolton for going along with it.
