Spec'd: Shutter Island
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, April 19, 2010
On June 8, 2010 Paramount Home Video will release Shutter Island on Blu-ray ($29.99), DVD ($19.99) and video-on-demand.
The second-highest grossing film of director Martin Scorsese's career, Shutter Island has taken in $125 million dollars domestically and an additional $121 from overseas. Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo plays two U.S. Marshals in the 1950s whose work calls them to a remote, windswept island off the coast of Massachusetts that is home to a mental asylum for the criminally insane. Called to investigate the disappearance of a female inmate, the lawmen discover clues that make them suspect that the island's head doctor (Ben Kingsley) is hiding something danergous from them.
The Blu-ray includes two bonus featurettes:
- "Behind the Shutters" follows the film from its inception as an acclaimed Dennis Lahane novel through the production process and to the big screen. Interviews with cast and crew accompany this featurette.
- "Into the Lighthouse" discusses the historical landscape of psychiatric therapies during the 1950s through interviews with cast and crew.
The straight DVD version won't come with any additional bonus material.
