The director of the first Paranormal Activity hasn't even released his follow-up movie yet (the found footage sci-fi/horror one called Area 51) but he's already on to directing his third movie. Filming on the Untitled Oren Peli Project, as it's being referred to right now, kicked off yesterday in eastern Europe.

The premise makes Peli's movie sound like a monster movie set in the shadows of Chernobyl. A group of friends venture into an abandoned city, left by its former inhabitants due to a nuclear accident that happened close-by. Unable to find their way out of the ghost town before night falls, the group begins to hear strange and frightening noises, leading them to realize that the radioactive ruins are indeed inhabited -- but by what?

Peli is producing and developed the story. Brad Parker is directing Jonathan Sadowski, Devin Kelley, Jesse McCartney, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Nathan Phillips, Ingrid Bolso Berdal and Dimitri Diatchenko in the movie. FilmNation is financing the movie and will also sell the international distribution rights.

"I love my job. I get to work with a talented director like Brad on the kind of scary movie I know I'd happily stand in line to see," commented Peli in a press release issued today.

"I really couldn't be happier with our cast. We've brought together a group of fresh, talented young actors and they're all getting ready to give us nightmares! In the best possible way!" said another of the movie's producers, Brian Witten (who also produced the remake of Friday the 13th, Final Destination).

Meanwhile Area 51 still doesn't have a confirmed release date yet. Peli made his second movie in the same footsteps as Paranormal Activity, except this time the found footage is of a trio of young adults that venture inside the government's most infamous secret base to learn the truth behind the rumors of captured aliens.
