Total Wimmer Recall
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, June 2, 2009
Kurt Wimmer has been hired to write the screenplay for the remake of Total Recall. The writer/director of Equilibrium and Ultraviolet, Wimmer now gets to craft the redo but no one associated with the production is saying if the new Recall will go back to Philip K. Dick's original short story that inspired the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, be a straight out remake of the flick or meet somewhere in the middle between the two takes.
Neal Moritz (Fast and Furious) is producing the remake under his Original Films company for Columbia Pictures. No cast members have been attached to the project as of yet.
Wimmer has been busy taking screenwriting jobs after his last directing project, Ultraviolet with Milla Jovovich, bombed at theaters. He's written the scripts for Salt, now filming with Angelina Jolie in the title role of a double agent, and Law Abiding Citizen, a thriller starring Gerard Butler (300).

If it is written by the guy behind Ultraviolet and produced by the guy behind the Fast and the Braindead, then I am willing to bet that it will be as far away from Phillip K Dick as possible. It will be like the Arnie movie, only less clever and with more hip-hop on the soundtrack.
