BioWare and Lucasarts have released the first trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the new massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in development. Gamers are anxiously anticipating this title as BioWare has an excellent rep for making solid Star Wars games such as Knights of the Old Republic.

Set 3,500 years before Episode I and about 300 years after the events in Knights of the Old Republic, the game's setting is at a time when the Sith Order and the Jedi Knights are in the beginnings of a new war. New Sith disciples are being trained on Korriban while the Jedi have been forced to retreat from Coruscant to Tython, the planet where the Jedi originated from. Players will be able to choose from the two orders and then select classes such as Smuggler, Trooper, Bounty Hunter and others yet to be revealed. Choices made in the game will have an impact on the storylines opened to your character.

While a release date hasn't been mentioned yet the rumor is that The Old Republic probably won't see the light of day until 2010. Until then we'll just have to make due with the promises offered in this trailer:
