Just like the Road Warrior himself, a fourth Mad Max movie seems impossible to stop. Even though the project has been held back due to production snafus and an aborted start as a result of the logistical aftermath of 9/11, director George Miller keeps trying to turn over the engine on Mad Max: Fury Road. Miller's finally reached a point where he's assembled a cast (Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron are in there) and it's looking more likely than ever before that MM4 will happen.
Now comes word that it won't just be a fourth Mad Max movie -- there'll also be a fifth shot at the same time #4 gets made.
According to Twitchfilm the fifth Mad Max movie has the grim-inducing subtitle of Furiosa, which makes it sound like an offspring of The Chronicles of Riddick and the Fast and Furious franchise of films. Nevertheless, Twitchfilm insists that Miller wants to film both movies back-to-back and release Furiosa closely after Fury Road hits cinemas. This news is supported by Tom Hardy's recent comment that he will be working on the new Mad Max for nine months of shooting, a helluva long time if this were to be a single movie. Hitfix followed up on Twitchfilm's story and confirmed that there are two Mad Max movies in development, as well as speculated on the implications of the Furiosa title. Since the word is the female version of "furious" in Portugese or Italian could Miller be planning on making the central character in movie #5 a woman? Is Charlize Theron being prepped in Fury Road to become Mad Maxine?

OMFG! I was just reminiscing about Mad Max a couple days ago. This is exciting news. So exciting I feel like jumping on a coach like Tom Cruise! I think I would have preferred a non star cast... sans Charlize Theron that is. But, I'll take what I can get.
With a the big lead woman 'tough-guy' movies and franchises out there now I wouldn't be surprised if they did move in that direction. I hope not. I wanna go back to the lonely Mad Max who is basically the focus of the show. "The chain in those handcuffs is high-tensile steel..."
