VGA 2011 trailers: Diablo III, Mass Effect 3, Command & Conquer: Generals 2, Amazing Spider-Man and more
Last evening Spike TV broadcast the 2011 Video Game Awards. As is customary for the event, several new trailers for big games scheduled for release throughout 2012 were shown for the first time along with the first mentions of new titles. Trailer: Grand Theft Auto 5
It's arrived: the trailer for Grand Theft Auto V. Whether you like the violence-laden gaming franchise or avoid it, GTA5 is going to be one of next year's most talked about gaming releases. Today Rockstar Games released the first trailer for the title. Judging from the way the graphics look, the latest Grand Theft Auto has taken a major step forward in its looks and open sandbox gameplay.

Batman: Arkham City sells 4.6 million copies
Today marks the one week anniversary of the release for Batman: Arkham City, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's sequel to the bestselling Batman: Arkham Asylum. Now Arkham City can be called a bestseller too as the publisher has released sales figures for the game: more than 4.6 million copies of Batman: Arkham City have been sold for xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Trailer: Battlefield 3
Next Tuesday EA will release Battlefield 3, its first-person combat shooter. The video game software giant is putting a lot of marketing bucks behind BF3 because they now want to go after the Call of Duty fanbase that rival company Activision has built up over the past seven years. And judging from the launch trailer for Battlefield 3 that the company released today, they might just have a shot at establishing that beachhead.

Gears of War 3 sells 3 million copies
Since its launch two weeks ago, Gears of War 3 has now sold more than three million copies on the Xbox 360. That has pushed the total sales of the franchise past one billion dollars and positioned it as one of the bestselling video game franchises of all time.

Gears of War 3 arrives
The latest game in Microsoft's Xbox 360 franchise for Gears of War went on sale last night at the stroke of midnight. Gears of War 3, made by Epic Games, is now available for the Xbox 360. It's expected to be one of the console's biggest sellers this year, and advance orders have been huge.

Watch Portal: No Escape
Dan Trachtenberg is a commercials director, known for his 30-second spots for Lexus and Nike. I guess he's also a big fan of Valve's Portal video game because this guy's directed a short fan film, with high production values, that can serve as a prequel to the first Portal game.

Star Trek video game announced for 2012
While development on the follow-up to 2009's hugely successful reboot of Star Trek has been as slow as trying to maneouver through a Tholian web, today Paramount Digital Entertainment announced that a brand new Trek adventure would be arriving on the major game consoles the summer next.

Trailer: Aliens: Colonial Marines
For five years the team working at Gearbox Software have been working on a "side-quel" to Aliens, James Cameron's 1986 sequel to Alien. There was a time when it looked like the game wasn't going to be completed after Sega pulled their funding, but things turned around and the software developer is back at work making things happen.

Call of the Dead expansion promises maximum zombie mayhem
One week from today Activision will release a new map for Call of Duty: Black Ops that gives gamers more zombies to shoot down. We expected such a thing from the software company, but not exactly what was announced today.
