Next gen games could cost $60 million to make
If you keep track of escalating budgets for Hollywood films then hearing a price tag of $200 million or more isn't that shocking anymore. However, in the world of video games, where an average Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 title can cost between $20 million to $30 million dollars, hearing speculation from one of the industry's leaders that the cost of making a game could be doubled for the next generation systems might give some developers a hammering heart.

Saw villain gets his game on
When the video game inspired by the Saw horror movie franchise gets released this fall around the same time that Saw VI arrives in theaters the digital Jigsaw will have the same pipes as his film version. Konami announced today that actor Tobin Bell has been hired to lend his voice as the maniacal serial killer in the Saw video game the company will publish.

Trailer debut for Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG
BioWare and Lucasarts have released the first trailer for Star Wars: The Old Republic, the new massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in development. Gamers are anxiously anticipating this title as BioWare has an excellent rep for making solid Star Wars games such as Knights of the Old Republic.

Watch James Cameron spill details about his Avatar game
Yesterday at the Ubisoft presentation at E3 the video game company made its first public showing of Avatar, the video game based on James Cameron's highly anticipated science fiction action movie. And who better to talk about what gamers can expect that the guy that created the universe that Ubisoft's Avatar draws from than director/writer James Cameron?

Arriving in stores on September 9, 2009, the game allows players to play as any one of the fab four and recreate their legendary career, from their first show in the basement of a Liverpool night club to their final public performance on top of the roof of Apple Corp's office building in 1969.

The 2009 Electronic Entertainment Exposition kicked off today in Los Angeles. Gaming companies worldwide have once again sent their marketing, programming and senior management people to tease the world's gamers as to what they can expect to be playing inside the next 12 months. Already there has been one big surprise announcement, that being that a sequel to last year's bestselling zombie survival horror game Left 4 Dead is in development -- and it will be out before the end of this year!

Aragorn's Quest officially announced
New games based on Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy of films are coming. After several games were released by Electronic Arts for most of this decade the rights have reverted back to New Line Entertainment, and since New Line is owned by parent company Warner Bros., it makes perfect sense business wise for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to publish future Lord of the Rings titles. The first of the new generation of LotR games is already in development and it's called Aragorn's Quest.

Prototype trailer launches
The trailer for Prototype, an upcoming third-person action title, has unspooled. Developed by Radical Games and to be distributed by Activision come early June, the game follows the tribulations of a young amnesiac man named David Mercer whose body has been subjugated to some kind of bizarre experiment that leaves him with fantastical shape-changing abilities.

Night at the Museum dawning next month for gamers
Arriving in stores a few days before Night at the Museum 2 on May 22 will be Majesco's video game tie-in. The company has just revealed that a Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian has been in development and will be available for the Nintendo Wii and DS, Microsoft Xbox 360 and PC.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 adds two
Activision has revealed two more playable characters for their Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 role-playing game set for release later this year. In addition to being able to select from such heavyweights as Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk and Wolverine, the two new choices are Songbird and Iron Fist -- names that don't exactly make the superhero geek in me sit up and scream "YEAH!" but I suppose more is always a good thing.
