WB making sequels to Clash of the Titans and Journey to the Center of the Earth
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, April 28, 2010

A juicy exclusive winds it way out of Deadline, the dastardly showbiz website of Nikki Finke. Mike Fleming, formerly of Variety, reports that Warner Bros. is moving ahead on developing sequels to this year's Clash of the Titans and 2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth.
According to the site Clash 2 would bring back Sam Worthington as Perseus as well as most of the Greek gods, demi-gods and mortals that survived the first picture. Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern) has been hired to write the sequel screenplay, and while director Louis Leterrier isn't interested in a second go-around with mythology, he'll get an executive producer credit on the new movie. As they did with the remake, Legendary Pictures will produce Clash of the Titans 2. Warners wants to get this one ready for filming before James Cameron orders Worthington to go all Na'vi again for Avatar 2.
Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 is being assembled by New Line Cinema and Walden Media, the same team that worked on the first moderate summer hit. While the studio wants Journey 2 ready for release in the fall of 2011, the uncertainty of making that date lies with star Brendan Fraser. Deadline reports that Fraser doesn't want to make the sequel without the director of the first film, Eric Brevig, who's away making the live-action Yogi Bear flick for parent company WB. Josh Hutcherson would also come back as Fraser's nephew (which Deadline incorrectly labels as Fraser's character's son -- nuh-uh.) New Line wouldn't mind making the subterranean sequel with a guy like Canadian filmmaker Brad Peyton behind the lens.
