Will Ferrell sees good things with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. It's happening and Will Ferrell and Anchorman director Adam McKay are helping to bring it to you.
The guy that came up with the idea is Tommy Wirkola, the director and co-writer of IFC Film's upcoming horror-comedy Dead Snow. You know, that movie about zombie Nazis attacking a bunch of good looking young people on a ski vacation? It's coming out this summer. Anyway, Wirkola had this idea about what happened once the fairy tale brother and sister grew up and how their brush with an evil witch that wanted to cook them had a lasting effect on them. Ghostbusters meets Grimm's fairy tales?
Where McKay and Ferrell fit into it are as producers. Wirkola pitched the idea to the pair, who have a development company called Gary Sanchez Productions (that's McKay on the left in the photo and Sanchez in the middle.) "The idea is, they've grown up and they hunt witches," McKay told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's a hybrid sort of old-timey feeling, yet there's pump-action shotguns. Modern technology but in an old style. We heard it and we were just like, 'That's a freakin' franchise! You could make three of those!'"
The Sanchez crew have a deal with Paramount Pictures so that's where Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters will eventually come out from. Wirkola is now fleshing out the idea into a screenplay and waiting to see how Dead Snow does when it gets released on June 23.
