You've got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles again

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, April 23, 2009

A new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film is now in development and slated to be out in theaters in 2011.

The new TMNT is being developed by The Mirage Group, the company that owns the property. Mirage also brought us the TMNT animated flick that got released two years ago, and since there's been no news that anyone was in a rush to make a sequel to that film, it seems the plan is to try and give the Turtles a new shot at the big screen by going back to the form that the first TMNT movie back in 1990 was made in: live-action.

CG TMNT producer Galen Walker and former Legendary Pictures marketing exec Scott Mednick are producer on the new film, with Gary Richardson, Frederick Fierst, Eric Crown, Napoleon Smith III and Turtles co-creator Peter Laird all executive producing.

"The original dozen comics created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman are some of the best source material one could hope for," Mednick told Variety about the new project. Mednick is already thinking about ways to improve on the old Jim Henson turtle suits used for the three live-action films from the '90s, such as using motion capture on the faces of the actors playing the Turtles to better present the emotional range of the characters.

The timing of the new film's announcement is well-timed as the 1990 film is being shown at the Tribeca Film Festival to mark the 25th anniversary of the publication of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book.

Totally radical, dude!! Hell yeah, I have been hoping they would do another live action movie after the CGI movie came out.

With today's technology I can see the film crews making the turtle suits look more realistic then before. My only concern is that the film makers might go a little too crazy with the CGI and end up making the turtles 80% of the time in CGI format...

Oh yeah, IN YOUR FACE KAEOS!!

I keep my standards low, that way im never dissapointed

personally I didnt think that the CGI Turtles flick was all that bad... seems going back to live action is like going in reverse... but whatever.. .if they want to go darker thats great to me as well.... much darker.

they also need to seriously remake Howard the Duck too....

anyway back to TMNT ... how about the TRICERITOPS or fugitoid this time out??? taking the turtles off world and into space where the comics had some of there best adventures! get them OUT of the NY sewers..

NO!!..WTF, Mckracken!?!? Are you crazy!! DO NOT take the Turtles off the planet, that might work for the comics and kids tv show but not for the people who grew up on it!! You loco, yo!

As for the villan though....I am not sure where they could go with this, I mean, is this a 'reimaging' or another continuation of the first four? I always thought Brain would be kind of cool to see, just don't make him as stupid and clumsy as he was in the cartoon show...

No! me no loco, yo. If it worked in the comics AND in the TV series then why wouldn't a space adventure with the Triceritops and Fugitoid work for a movie? they've already done time traveling, yo.... and by the way, I DID grow up on TMNT....yo.

Please stop this retarded, Happy Meal-inspired franchise. Enough.

All fathers...care...for their sons. If you can watch Splinter say that line to Danny without tearing up...you're a stronger person than me.

My view is this, stop it!
for pity sake with two cartoons
series in 90's 2003, which was the best version.
Not kidy centeric.

Not foreget they live action version movies
which cannot stomach anymore.
Its time end TMNT.
Of course market research stance is... milk it, till
the cow dies.
Both TMNT & Power Rangers should be put of there misery.

Dude, if English isn't your primary language, then please do tell us.

I remember going to see the first Turtles movie late Friday night with my college buddies. I may have taken my little bother, er...brother, too. We had a blast. I think we saw it twice.

The first movie was dark, it satisfied the kids and the grownups. They curse! As a ten-year old, that was awesome. They need to go more in that direction..

They cursed in eighties movies made for kids. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was 1990, and was pretty much the last one to do it.

I have done no research on the matter, and have no intention of backing up this post's previous sentence's claim.

The first two are my favorite with TMNT following behind. The third was a pile of shit.

I agree with you, Matrix. Make it darker but not dark enough to scare away all the kids. The first one was perfect.

With rehashing of movies and do-overs from a bomb of a movie, going back to a succesfull franchise is a smart idea and with TMNT, I don't think it's a stupid move at all.
