Zombieland and Jackass sequels to be filmed in the third dimension
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, December 2, 2009
Come January 25 Johnny Knoxville is going to start to hurt once again as filming kicks off on the third movie of Jackass. Meanwhile, across town in the offices of Sony Pictures, negotiations are underway with Zombieland stars Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson to return for a second round of zombie slaying and rules to live by. Both films are being filmed in 3D, Hollywood's latest toy that they're having fun with.
"Everyone had fun watching [the first] Zombieland; making it a more visceral experience can only make it better," said Gavin Polone, one of the film's producers, to Variety. "I don't think you want to see Ordinary People in 3-D. But Zombieland is clearly one movie that will benefit from [the technique]."
Nobody working for Paramount or Dickhouse Productions, the company making the Jackass production, wanted to go on record about why they're filming Jackass 3 in 3D. (Probably because the benefits are pretty obvious.) It used to be only mega-budgeted movies would consider filming in the new 3D process, so the cost of developing and shooting (a 3D picture takes longer to set up shots for) could be maximized in the returns. Now that the technology has been around for a couple of years the costs associated with making a 3D movie have started to creep down. Add on the fact that the first 3D capable televisions will go on sale next spring and suddenly the idea of making your movie in the third dimension just became a little more attractive.
