More Deadliest Catch game action coming
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, October 26, 2009
Video game publisher/developer Crave has signed a deal to make games based on two of The Discovery Channel's most popular and well-known shows, Deadliest Catch and Man vs. Wild.
The Catch game will be the first to come out in stores, sometime next spring, while Man vs. Wild is scheduled for a late 2011 release. There was an earlier Deadliest Catch published by Greenwave last year but it got terrible reviews for its crab fishing capitalism action. "We really didn't feel like it stayed true to the action of the show," said Crave suit Betsi Gijanto about the first game. "We're into a different content direction and bring up quality more on the level with the brand. There's an action-oriented theme in both shows, and we're going to bring those themes to all of the video game platforms."
The Crave Catch game will also follow the show's logline and put you as the captain of a Bearing Strait fishing vessel during the crab season. Rough seas, mean storms, cranky crews and finding out where the best crab are will be key points in the game. The Man vs. Wild game will likely feature the voice of the show's star, Bear Grylls, as he tries to survive in the rugged outdoors and stay away from the land's fiercesome creatures.
Both games will be released on the Microsoft Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and DS.

Given the recent flack that Discovery and Grylls in particular over the uber-fakeness of his show, I am surprised they would move forward with a Man vs Wild Game.
