Transformers sequel has big DVD sales

To no one's surprise, in its first week of release on DVD Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen leapt up to the top of the home video charts. However, Paramount bean counters are especially happy as the sequel sold 7.5 million DVD/Blu-ray copies in its first seven days of release.

Of that 7.5 million number, 1.2 million were Blu-ray copies of the film. It's the best first week sales figures for any DVD release in 2009 and just 500K shy of beating the year's number one title on home video, Twilight, which has sold 8 million copies since its release this past March.

In its theatrical run Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen took in $402 million domestic and another $430 million worldwide. It's currently standing as the year's most successful movie in terms of box office. Critically, well, that's a whole different story...

But critics aren't the ones who pay the bills. $400+ million, #1 domestically by a bit more than $100 million. Trust me, the studio isn't complaining about critical reviews...
