As a horror film director heavy metal rocker Rob Zombie has four films notched in his belt: House of 1,000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, the 2007 remake of Halloween and this summer's sequel, Halloween II. He's also developing a remake of the 1950s monster movie The Blob. When Zombie's Blob remake was announced there was some criticism heard, especially from the quarter that prefer John Carpenter's Halloween to the newer one, that Zombie was obsessing with remakes. Now Rob's said something surprising to CNN about the state of the film business in Hollywood: that they don't want original ideas, they want remakes.
"I have lots of original ideas that maybe will get made," Zombie told the news outlet. "But everyone ... even if you bring them the most obscure movie that nobody's ever heard of -- they want to remake that."
Zombie has another original concept in development about a boxer named Tyrannosaurus Rex who gets mixed up in the underground fight circuit. "But, unfortunately, I don't run Hollywood, so I kind of have to look at what's there and go, 'Well, OK, this is how they want to do things and I want to make movies.'"
When confronted with the fact that he's done both original films as well as remakes, he said, "I try to do what I tried to with Halloween -- take something and as much turn it into my own thing as possible."
Zombie's Halloween II is getting re-released this weekend on 1,000 screens to grab some bucks from the weekend crowd looking for an appropriately themed movie to see in theaters.

What ticks me off about Zombie is that he's been saying this for two years, Patrick..That the only way to get films made is to do remakes and sequels. When asked a year ago about coming back to do Halloween 2 and why Tyrannosaurus Rex fell apart, he said this same reasoning.
And yet, we have people in the industry who always find ways to get their movies made with enough hard work behind it.
The Kevin Smiths...The Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino (in their early years)...The John Carpenters and George Romero's.
If you really want your "original" movie made, you can do it. And Rob Zombie's name is enough that he should be able to receive indie financing.
Instead, he goes back on tour and accepts "The Blob" remake while announcing that he doesn't really like what makes the Blob...well, the Blob.
When he was announced as the director attached to remake the Blob, he actually came out and said he didn't like the cheesy factor revolving around the monster...Which is what that movie is all about.
Sheesh, Mr. Zombie. If you didn't like the whole essence of what makes the Blob special, why take on the job? For the paycheck? Okay...
He should understand that there are financing out there to make those indie horror movies he wants to make. When they're saying no to him, they're really saying no to more "White Trash" crap.
