Spec'd: Avatar

This morning 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment announced that it will release Avatar, the world's highest-grossing movie of all-time, onto DVD and Blu-ray on April 22, 2010. The date is intentional by Fox because it will mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, thus tying into Avatar's ecological themes.
At this time Fox has not indicated if there will be any bonus features on the disc nor how much either disc will cost consumers.
Released on December 17, 2009, James Cameron's Avatar has earned the studio over $2.6 billion dollars at the box office. Taking place on an alien moon in the Alpha Centauri star system, the film stars Sam Worthington as a handicapped Marine assigned to have his consciousness uploaded into a 10-foot-tall alien body so he can act as a bridge between humanity and the moon's natives, the Na'vi. Zoë Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso also star in the film.
While the DVD and Blu-ray will street for North American, Russian, Chinese and Brazilian consumers on Earth Day, other countries have a different release. They are:
France, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain: April 21
Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Mexico: April 23
United Kingdom: April 26
Denmark: April 27
Norway, Sweden, New Zealand: April 28
Australia: April 29
Finland: April 30
Italy: May 6
I paid the extra, and (believe it or not), it WAS worth it. It did sell me on the fact that the new generation of 3D is a true technological leap....
....but a technological leap does not 'the greatest movie ever' make.

So much for James Cameron saying he was expecting a fall date so they could re-release it in theatres....
