Twilight: New Moon DVD sells 4 million copies
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, March 23, 2010
If early sales figures are any indication then Summit Entertainment's New Moon DVD will sell slightly better than the first Twilight disc. The company's home video division released The Twilight Saga: New Moon on the home video format this past Saturday. Sales figures have been tallied and according to the results 4 million DVDs of New Moon were sold beginning at midnight Sunday and in a 24 hour period.
The Twilight DVD was also released on a Saturday, an unusual release date for a new disc but one that makes a ton of financial sense if your target market is teenage girls. Twilight the DVD sold 3.8 million units over its first 24 hour period and went on to be the best-selling DVD of last year with 9.2 million in total DVD sales. If New Moon follows in the same selling wave as Twilight it will push slightly over 10 million units by year end. That figure could be even higher if Summit releases Eclipse, the third movie in the franchise on disc in time for the holiday season. That film is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 30.
