Toy Story 3 has a great Friday while Jonah Hex falls short
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Saturday, June 19, 2010

On its first day of release, yesterday, Toy Story 3 soared high at the box office. Early estimates indicate that the three-quel took in $41 million dollars alone just on Friday. While that figure is impressive, it still doesn't earn Toy Story 3 a place in the record books for the top 20 highest grossing individual day for a movie. That said, today could be an even bigger day for Toy Story 3 as families take advantage of matinees.
Sony's The Karate Kid also had a good Friday and came out in second place with $8.9m in ticket sales. Fox's The A-Team followed in third spot with $4.1m, Shrek Forever After with $2.3m in fourth place and Warner Bros.' Jonah Hex with a dismal $1.9m opening day.
If the pace for Toy Story 3 continues all this weekend the movie will likely take in somewhere between $105m to $115m on its first weekend out.
