Next Pixar short about Ken and Barbie in Hawaii
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, December 20, 2010
We may have just learned what the next Pixar short film to run in front of Cars 2 will be, thanks to a pair of tweets from one of the company's artists.
Floyd Norman uses the microblogging service and talks about his Disney/Pixar work sometimes on it. Last Friday Norman sent out a tweet that said, "Saw the Pixar Hawaii short," and then a little while later, "Ken and Barbie want to go to Hawaii. I don't know what it's gonna be attached to. Fun stuff, however."
Up 'til now Pixar hasn't revealed any information about what short will play in front of Cars 2. While Norman doesn't know if the Ken and Barbie short film that he saw will run in front of the Cars sequel next summer, there's a good chance that it won't be appearing anywhere else. Pixar has said that they haven't closed the curtain on future appearances from the Toy Story cast, and the last we saw of the plastic couple they were happy residents of Sunnyside Daycare. There's also a tremendous number of other toys at Sunnyside if Pixar wanted to step up and launch a companion ensemble mini-franchise to complement its Toy Story one.
Interestingly, Norman must have been asked when people can expect to see the Hawaii short. "I honestly have no idea what short will precede Cars 2," he tweeted a day later. Or maybe someone from Pixar reminded him of an NDA that he signed.
