Wonder Woman DVD director talks animated movie
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Saturday, November 29, 2008
On March 3, 2009 those that have been waiting patiently for a big screen movie featuring DC Comics' Amazonian princess will get the next best thing. Warner Home Video will release their next animated feature, Wonder Woman, an all-new direct-to-video adventure that serves as an origin story for the heroine. IESB sat down for an interview with the film's director, Lauren Montgomery, and discussed how the project got started, her approach to bringing Diana's story to the screen, the decision to jettison some of the dated aspects to the character's history so that she could be updated to stand side-by-side with other DC heroes and deciding on the look of her in the movie:
"Wonder Woman went through a lot of different versions. Gradually, and for the betterment of the film, we determined that she should look strong and athletic without being manly. She's an Amazon, so I wanted her to be taken seriously. We wanted her to look like she worked out, and not just make her a curvy, busty pin-up. So I tried giving her slightly slimmer hips versus the hourglass figure, and I think it makes her more believable and engaging in a lot of action."
