Archie gets broody
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Sunday, February 27, 2011
What role does Archie Andrews play in 2011? Does the gang from Riverdale high have anything to say to today's teenagers? And really, are you trying to tell me that Archie still hasn't made a decision about his greatest dilemma: Veronica or Betty?
What if the answer to that question were Jughead? Think outside the box, Andrews!
Here's a fan made faux trailer for a fictional Riverdale television series, done with enough teenage angst that it could play right after Gossip Girl or Pretty Little Liars. Made by a Vancouver-based production company (go hometown!), their solution to push Archie and his comic book buddies into the 21st century is to tackle directly today's controversial subject matter for teens. Bullying. Teenage sex. Abortion. Drug abuse. Peer pressure. Homosexuality. School violence. School shootings. Date rape. Holy crap.
The creators seem to be parodying the grim and gritty, slutty and sexy approach to young adult entertainment but the crazy thing about the Riverdale trailer is that, if you removed the Archie-ness from it, is it all that different from what's on the TV set today?

They had me until the "in 3D" flashed at the end of the trailer.
