Charlie Sheen fired from Two and a Half Men

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, March 8, 2011

You may have known that it was coming, but yesterday Warner Bros. made it official and terminated (their words) Charlie Sheen from Two and a Half Men, CBS' top rated sitcom. No word yet if Sheen is arming his F-18 and will deploy his ordnance upon series co-creator Chuck Lorre and CBS management.

I haven't been covering the much public Charlie Sheen fight going on in the media because the media has been doing a 24/7 job of it. Between Charlie going on every talk show that will have him and his newly created Twitter feed (now with over one million subscribers), he doesn't need a string of stories on yet another website. But what does merit a story here on Coming Attractions is that CBS and Warner Bros. have officially made the first counter-move in this gawker-esque game of show business chess.

TMZ has published the letter that the lawyers representing Warner Bros. Television gave to Sheen's lawyers, and it outlines their case against the actor: they think that he's become seriously unhinged from reality because he's fallen off the wagon. To advocate their case, the defence for WBTV lays out incident after incident of Charlie getting in trouble, beginning two years ago when he got into hotel trouble with an escort and cumulating with all of the TV interviews Sheen conducted last week. There's page after page of website URLs that their lawyers use to cite media reports backing their claims that Sheen has become unhinged and, thusly, the show can't go on with him.

And here's the really interesting part: what WBTV didn't say was that they are cancelling Two and a Half Men. Instead, they no longer require Charlie Sheen's services on their program.

In plainspeak, the show ain't over yet.

1 season of 'One & A Half Men' before they move into the same apartment building that Joey Tribiani lives in, making it 'Two & A Half Men' again.  You heard it here first.

Be interesting to see if they recast him or change the format all together.

We were watching Al-Quaeda, and all this time our security services should have been keeping watch on Jakester's throbbing nutsack!-Dalton's chin dimple

well Charlie can always fall back on that proposed sequel to Platoon or do yet another Hot Shots III: the "Big Bonus" Movie flick for the Abrams brothers :) I mean he should have offers left and right after his "unhinged separation from reality"
