Call of the Dead expansion promises maximum zombie mayhem
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, April 26, 2011
One week from today Activision will release a new map for Call of Duty: Black Ops that gives gamers more zombies to shoot down. We expected such a thing from the software company, but not exactly what was announced today.
Titled Call of the Dead, game designer Treyarch went all the way and may have made the ultimate zombie homage for video games. The new map allows you to play as one of four players that every horrorhead knows about: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Danny Trejo (Predators, Machete), Robert Englund (the original Freddy from A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Michael Rooker (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Slither). Yup, you get to play as the real guys (and gal), shooting, stabbing and slashing the undead in a frozen setting.
Here's the other grand thing: Treyarch made Call of the Dead as an homage to George A. Romero, the grandfather of the modern zombie movie. Romero makes an appearance in the game too, as hinted at in this trailer for the expansion pack:
Wasn't that a cool way to present the whole concept and do a tip of the hat to Grindhouse and the most memorable tune from Return of the Living Dead? If you're a zombie fan at all, how can you not resist this temptation of lost hours?
