Trailer: Aliens: Colonial Marines
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, June 2, 2011
For five years the team working at Gearbox Software have been working on a "side-quel" to Aliens, James Cameron's 1986 sequel to Alien. There was a time when it looked like the game wasn't going to be completed after Sega pulled their funding, but things turned around and the software developer is back at work making things happen.
Up 'til now there were only a couple of screenshots for Aliens fans to look and and wonder about. Now, with E3 about to slam us with its insane level of marketing hype, Gearbox has released their first trailer for Aliens: Colonial Marines.
That IP address you see on the monitor screen near the start of the trailer actually works. If you visit 66.194.172.6 you'll be asked to input your age and then a hostname. When you enter 'father', you'll be treated to another version of the trailer that features gameplay. It's not much, but it's more evidence that Gearbox is making a direct sequel to Aliens and giving us an explanation as to what the Marines did after Ripley and the USS Sulaco failed to check in after leaving LV-426.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is scheduled for release in the spring of 2012. It will be available for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 gaming systems.
