Daredevil being born again for audiences
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, June 8, 2011
With one of its three Marvel movie franchises successfully rebooted (X-Men: First Class), 20th Century Fox is now moving ahead to resurrect the second: the studio has hired screenwriter Brad Caleb Kane to develop a screenplay for a new Daredevil movie.
Fox released the first Daredevil movie back in 2003. That picture starred Ben Affleck as the man without fear, a blind lawyer who is gifted with a kind of radar sense. He took on the criminal machinations of The Kingpin (played by Michael Clarke Duncan) and Bullseye (Colin Farrell) while pursuing a romance with fellow vigilante Elektra (Jennifer Garner). Elektra was spun off into her own stand-alone film but that vehicle was not well received by the public, comic book fans or the critics.
Kane has been a writer on Fox's Fringe series. This new Daredevil flick is said to follow the storyline of Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli's "Born Again" storyline, a serial that rejuvinated the character in the comic book.
The new Daredevil has a director attached to it, namely 30 Days of Night/Twilight Saga: Eclipse's David Slade. Regency Pictures is the producing entity developing the project.
Fox also has the film rights to Marvel's Fantastic Four which is supposedly also getting a creative overhaul for an upcoming movie reboot.
