Since it's set to open in March, the studio must at least think it's good. If it was Ghost Rider quality, it'd be coming in February (or even January *shudder*).

The first look at John Carter, formerly titled John Carter of Mars, is now online.
Based on the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs character and book series, the movie is being made by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by Finding Nemo and WALL-E director Andrew Stanton. Taylor Kitsch stars as John Carter, the Civil War-era soldier mysteriously transported to a Mars that has warring factions of green, four-armed men, beautiful princesses and dangerous monsters.
First impressions: Mars looks an awfully lot like Utah (which is where Stanton filmed the exterior scenes). Maybe that will add to the believability of the world but it also might draw us away from accepting that this is an alien world. Even though she's not red and only in the trailer briefly I'm sold on Lynn Collins as princess Dejah Thoris but not yet on Kitsch as John Carter. And the ever-so-brief glimpse of green martian Tars Tarkas doesn't lead me either way whether Stanton and his effects team have pulled off the look of the Martians.
Yet, this is just the first look. I'm hoping that a second trailer will sell more of the strangeness of Mars and of the epic Lawrence of Arabia feel that the movie has to have.
John Carter opens in theaters March 9, 2012.

Watching that, all I can think of is, "Why is Tim Riggins dressed so funny?" Not sure that Taylor Kitsch can shake that for a while.
