AMC renews The Walking Dead for third season
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, October 25, 2011
AMC has given the go-ahead for a third season of The Walking Dead. For those of you that have been following the news reports about the second season's viewing figures, today's announcement shouldn't come as too great a surprise.
"Today we are pleased to announce that the 'dead' shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels," said Charlie Collier, the president of AMC. "We are thankful for everyone's contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make The Walking Dead a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world."
The second season premiere scored a 4.8 household rating, which translates into 7.3 million total viewers for the first showing of the 90-minute episode. For the ad men working at AMC, 4.8 million of those viewers are in the coveted 18-49 demographic, making it a juicy opportunity for the network to go out and get advertisers to pay big bucks for ad space. Ratings for season two of The Walking Dead are currently up 36 percent over last year's numbers.
