VGA 2011 trailers: Diablo III, Mass Effect 3, Command & Conquer: Generals 2, Amazing Spider-Man and more
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Sunday, December 11, 2011
Last evening Spike TV broadcast the 2011 Video Game Awards. As is customary for the event, several new trailers for big games scheduled for release throughout 2012 were shown for the first time along with the first mentions of new titles. If you missed the show or want a second opportunity to see the game trailers, here they are.
Diablo III:
The opening cinematic scequence for Diablo III was shown. With a still unconfirmed release date, Blizzard's eagerly awaited sequel to its legendary hack-and-slasher is going to be an event of mega-proportions.
Rainbow Six: Patriots:
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six franchise shows no signs of slowing down. While the cinematic trailer doesn't reveal much about the game's plot or its gameplay, the drama we see unfolding in the trailer certainly promises some heavy action.
The Amazing Spider-Man:
Actvision's next Spider-Man game is being made to come out with the July release of The Amazing Spider-Man movie. No sign of that movie's villain, The Lizard, is given in the first trailer for the new game but the graphics look amazing.
The Last of Us:
The developers of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune 3 are hard at work on a new survival game for the PlayStation 3 that was first mentioned at the VGAs. It's hard to tell if the end of the world in Naughty Dog's The Last of Us has to do with a zombie apocalypse or technology-based breakdown in society, but if exploring in a deserted city populated with dangerous beings doesn't hold interest for you, don't watch the game's trailer below.
Command & Conquer: Generals 2:
A brand new game in the Command & Conquer franchise was revealed at the VGAs: a sequel to the turn-based strategy game Generals. Whuile it's fantastic to see BioWare, the same developer behind Dragon Age and the upcoming Star Wars MMO Knights of the Old Republic, behind Generals 2, after watching the first trailer for the game, don't you get a little bit of a Call of Duty feel to it?
Hitman: Absolution:
There's a new Hitman game coming out in 2012. The first trailer doesn't make any promises about expanding the game's horizons but it does tell you that there will be plenty of murder to be done, if that's what you're seeking. That makes sense; after all, it is supposed to be a Hitman game.
Mass Effect 3:
OK, it's not a trailer but it is gameplay footage from Mass Effect 3, BioWare's best-selling sci-fi/RPG. In this taste of the game we see Commander Shepard rolling around on a battlefield, dodging attacks from some giant mechanical threat.
